Flatmate Interview Checklist

Before visiting potential student accomodation, make sure you have a checklist for a good house or flat mate.

Finding a match in personality and living habits will allow you to easily come home to a stress free environment.

Living Habits

Investigate the living habits of a potential house mate.  Do they listen to loud music?  How often do they have overnight guests?  Do they clean?  Are they on time with their bills?  Figure out what you expect from a house mate and make sure these expectations are met.

Common habits to check may include:

Cleanliness: How often do they wash dishes?  Clean the bathroom?

Guests:  How often are overnight guests around?  Do they throw parties?

Time Schedule:  When do they go to work/ University?  When do they need to use the Bathroom?  Do they stay up late at night?

Eating Habits:  How often and when do they cook?

Weekends:  Are they at home most of the time?  Do they go out?

Personality

What are you looking for in your student accommodation and house mates?  Do you want to become friends with them?  Or do you simply want to split the bills and not have anyone bother you?  Make sure you find the right person to live with.  A house mate with the desire for the same level of interaction will yield a better living situation.

When interviewing, ask about hobbies and interests.  You may find a house mate who shares a common passion.  Having a companion who shares a particular passion may enable you to reach your personal goals.  You may even split bills on purchases made in pursuit of this common passion.  Not only do you save money on living arrangements, but you may also save money on other pursuits.

Finding the perfect house mate or flat mate is a lot of hard work.  However, the results are incredibly rewarding.
